Swinging the East – OSTPOL BERLIN Festival Closing

Sun, 12. Jul // 20:00 , Maschinenhaus (Kulturbrauerei) entrance: Knaackstraße 97, 10435 Berlin (Knaackstraße 97, 10435 Berlin)

Founded in 2021, “The Oskar Strock & Eddie Rosner Orchestra”® is the first and, to date, only ensemble in the world to bring the once-ostracized, silenced, and presumed-lost music of Oskar and Eddie—along with works by their contemporaries—back to Germany on an exclusive commission, and to perform their later works from the 1940s through the 1970s. Oskar Strock (*1893 Latvia) and Eddie Rosner (*1910 Berlin) celebrated their first successes in Berlin during the late Weimar Republic, soon becoming the pioneering and most important co-founders of the swing and tango traditions from Eastern Europe all the way to Japan and Finland. Nevertheless, dictatorial regimes nearly succeeded in erasing the names of these two exceptionally talented Jewish musicians from cultural memory. We are therefore celebrating their music at the conclusion of our festival with a spectacular concert of the highest caliber!
