The poet Julia Cimafiejeva uses the many forms and genres at her disposal to tell the story of her family’s life over the course of a whole, long century. She says: “This book describes the long journey away from home.” This is the path taken by the exiled poet, the path taken by many in her family. “Does what I cannot remember belong to me?”
Life in exile: Alhierd Bacharevič asks himself: “What does it mean today to be a writer, an emigrant, a man, a Belarusian, a European? Above all, however: what does it mean to be a human being – with one’s dreams and fears, one’s ambition, one’s envy, one’s weaknesses and strengths?” The author’s first book since being awarded the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding in 2025.

The duo WTBSK is an experimental music project based in Berlin and Vitebsk (Belarus), comprising Sveta Ben (vocals/lyrics) and Sergey Novitsky (electronics/MADMAPPER). Their style blends trip-hop, noise, techno and psychedelic elements with intense, absurd lyrics that range from whispers to screams. The music reflects on exile, hope and the reality in Belarus.
The event will be held in German, with English translation and sections in Belarusian (with translations).
Tickets are €5 (reduced price €3) and are available only at the box office in the Maschinenhaus.
