YIDDISH was born in Germany and grew up in Eastern Europe. Today, Berlin is home to one of the world’s most vibrant Yiddish cultural scenes. The festival program kicks off with a mixture of performance, poetry, music, and conversation from contemporary Berlin’s international Yiddish community:
Anna Rozenfeld will present a new experimental performance combining an original Yiddish poem with sound art, and report on her cultural activism between Warsaw and Berlin—ranging from Yiddish radio shows and children’s books to the big stage of the Berliner Ensemble.
Sasha Lurje will share new and reinterpreted Yiddish songs accompanied by globally active composer and accordionist Patrick Farrell. Between folk songs, art songs, and modern compositions, they will share stories from Berlin’s Yiddish music and culture scene, which they’ve both helped to build with their organization Shtetl Berlin.
The event will be moderated by Yiddish poet, cultural activist, and event organizer Jake Schneider.

The event will be held in German, Yiddish, and English.
Tickets are €5 (reduced price €3) and are available only at the box office in the Maschinenhaus.
