Photographer and Author

Maria Balaguero Oliva is an Andorran photographer specializing in documentary and fine art photography, whose work explores the connections between violence, memory, and human existence. She is 37 years old and hails from Encamp, but has always had a deep passion for Ukraine. She says we must not forget that the conflict continues. Last summer, she volunteered with the Red Cross and launched “Between Sirens,” a photo essay documenting the daily lives of civilians in Odessa during the war. Her work encompasses conflict photography, institutional documentation, and intimate glimpses into domestic life. Inspired by the tradition of social documentary photography, Maria’s work has taken her to conflict zones, correctional facilities, and the hidden corners of domestic life.
