Ilma Rakusa (b. 1946) studied Slavic and Romance languages; she lives in Zurich as an author, critic, and translator (from Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, and French), with strong ties to Berlin. For her poems, short stories, essays and the memoir passages in “Mehr Meer”, she has received, among other awards, the Swiss Book Prize, the Kleist Prize, the Berlin Literature Prize and the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize for Essay and Criticism. Her most recent work is the diary-style prose “Wo bleibt das Licht” (2025). She is a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature.
