Author, Translator, Moderator
Ernest Wichner, born in 1952 in Guttenbrunn/Zăbrani, Romania, has lived in Berlin since 1976. From 2003 to 2017, he served as the director of the Literaturhaus Berlin. He is an author and translator; in 2023, he published the poetry collection Heute Mai und morgen du (Schöffling & Co., Frankfurt am Main), as well as translations of Dana Ranga’s poetry volume Stop. Die Pausen des Sisyphos, Norman Manea’s novel The Shadow in Exile (Der Schatten im Exil), and Tatiana Țîbuleac’s novel The Glass Garden (Der Garten aus Glas). In 2024, he translated the novel Theodoros by Mircea Cărtărescu. He was awarded the Johann Heinrich Voß Prize for Translation in 2020 and the Hieronymusring in 2025.
