Author
Carmen-Francesca Banciu is a German and Romanian author. After a multi-year publishing ban in Romania, she came to Berlin in 1991 at the invitation of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, where she has lived and worked ever since and has been writing in German since 1993. In her novels, she combines autobiographical experience with political reflection and poetic density. Her texts speak of migration, memory, and the aftereffects of dictatorship and violence, and examine transgenerational trauma as well as the possibilities of forgiveness and reconciliation.
Her novel “Farewell, Comrades and Lovers!” (Lebt wohl, Ihr Genossen und Geliebten!) was longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2018. In autumn 2026, her novel “Angelus at My Door. A Novel in Eleven Encounters” (Angelus vor meiner Tür. Ein Roman in elf Begegnungen) will be published by PalmArtPress
