Anna Rozenfeld works as a linguist and literary scholar, teaches Yiddish, and translates from Yiddish. She studied art history, philosophy, literary studies, and fine arts at the universities of Marburg, Salzburg, Vienna, and Warsaw. She completed her studies (MISH/Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities) in Warsaw with a thesis titled Spojrzenie dzieła sztuki – w stronę Waltera Benjamina (Eng. “The Gaze of the Work of Art: Concepts in Walter Benjamin”) and graduated with honors. In addition to her academic work, as a trained actress she was a member of the Jewish Ester Rachel and Ida Kamińska Theater in Warsaw and performs in international theater productions and with her own programs in Yiddish, Polish, and German; her work as a visual artist has been presented at numerous exhibitions in Europe, Israel, the U.S., and Canada. Both academically and artistically, Anna Rozenfeld has made a vibrant engagement with Yiddish culture a central focus of her life and her profession. This included her hosting and contributions to “Naje Chwaljes,” the Yiddish program of Polish Radio. She served as a consultant and coach for the Yiddish language on international theater, music, and film productions, such as Agnieszka Holland’s feature film “In Darkness” (2011). She was the editor of the art sections for the quarterly journal of Yiddish literature and art “Cwiszn.” She has also worked for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN) in Warsaw; until the end of 2016, she taught Yiddish as a lecturer at the Center for Yiddish Culture in Warsaw. Through her workshops and projects, such as the initiative ייִדיש לעבט (Yiddish lives), and her translations from Yiddish, she aims to help ensure that the rich heritage of Yiddish culture remains alive and is preserved in the present day.
